Aion 3.0...Expansion?

by Mithoron, 10 hours ago

There is a bunch of buzz from the Aion boards about Aion 3.0. NCSoft has announced they will be posting a video November 24th about Aion 3.0, the next "big thing" for Aion.

Nobody is certain as of yet what this means, although most agree it will be the expansion for Aion; however, why things are jumping from version 1.x.x to 3.x.x is unknown...will there be a 2.0 version? (Flying pets are slated for 1.6, so that is not it...).

As to what this entails, nobody knows:
  • Level cap increase?
  • Abyss expansion?
  • More instances?
  • New playable race?
There is a lot of conjecture and nothing known.

Although it may seem sudden--Aion West has only been out for 2 months--the game has been out for over a year now in Korea, and it has always been NCSoft's stance that both the Asian and NA/EU versions would be synched up...so that may be the big skip from 2.0. As of yet, it's all conjecture...we'll find out Wednesday!

Claim your characters!

by Mithoron, 3 days ago

Now that Guild Launch has added the feature to import characters from the NCSoft website, I need everybody to claim their characters so they are associated with the correct accounts.

Please go into the Legion Roster and look at the CHARACTERS section and claim any characters that are yours...

“There has been a rumor going around that SM [Spiritmaster] pets will soon be able to fly with us so we do not lose and have to resummon them every time we fly. Is this true, and if so, how soon?”

Spiritmasters should be delighted to know that the rumor is true! Contrary to some rumors, though, this enhancement will not be part of the 1.5.1 update that will be coming to the NA and EU servers in November. Spiritmaster pets will soon be able to fly and fight along your side while in the air, a feature that will obviously be quite beneficial within the Abyss. As before, you will still only be able to summon a pet while on the ground.

The development team in Korea has implemented the flying pet enhancement, and it’s working to bring the update to the NA and EU servers soon. We don’t have an estimate at this time as to when this update will be implemented in the West. However, we will be releasing more information in the coming weeks.

Aion West differentiation from Aion East?

by Mithoron, 10 days ago

Interesting tidbit posted on AionSource.com:

Knite wrote:
I've gotten word that Aion may no longer remain a globally synchronized game. According to my source, the NCWest CEO stated that the Western version of Aion will start to differ from it's Korean counterpart starting from the next patch. Does this mean that NCWest will no longer be dependent on Korea for all their updates? Or just given more control over the client itself? It's difficult to say for sure, but we'll keep our fingers clicking looking for the news for you. Either way, it looks like a good step for Western Aion, which will hopefully improve problem response times. We shall see!

NCSoft sales double after Aion release...

by Mithoron, 10 days ago

From www.gamesindustry.biz

Quote:
NCsoft has seen a surge in profits in the third quarter of 2009, reporting a year-on-year increase of 836 per cent following the global release of Aion: The Tower of Eternity.

Revenue for the company also more than doubled compared to the same period last year.
The company recorded a profit of KRW 46.9 billion (USD 40.6 million) for the third quarter - an increase of 39 per cent on the second quarter of the year - and revenues totalling KRW 166.3 billion (USD 144 million), which was an increase of 21 per cent.

Revenue was already up in the first half of the year for the company following the release of Aion across Korea. The game was responsible for more than half of NCsoft's overall sales in the latest quarter, totalling 970,000 units in just under a week.

NCsoft said its "proportion of overseas sales surged due to Aion's sales in Japan, Taiwan, US and Europe."

Aion topped the PC chart upon its release in the US in October. NCsoft was also forced to introduce new servers days after the game came out in Europe as players flooded existing ones.

How do Clerics earn Abyss Points?

Abyss Points, in general, are rewarded based in the damage dealt by a whole group. (A group being, at maximum, six characters.) A Cleric will not gain any Abyss Points if he plays on his own and heals the members of a different group, but he will gain the same number of Abyss Points as his fellow group members receive when they fight other players or groups. He also gains the same amount of Abyss Points as anyone else would when dealing damage and successfully defeating opponents in one-on-one situations.

The Medals distributed during fortress sieges are assigned based on Abyss Point ranking. One might rephrase the original question as: “How do Clerics earn Medals?” Medals can be used to buy items in the Abyss and are therefore quite valuable. Gold and Silver Medal rewards are given out to the top 100 players of a siege based on the amount of Abyss Points those players gained.

It’s essential for everyone to be able to participate in Abyss sieges and other more or less voluntary brawls. While there is always room to improve any game system, we feel that the current Abyss Point and Medal system goes a long way to compensate players for their respective efforts. In Aion, we always try to encourage what we feel is the foundation of MMO gaming: playing with friends and grouping.

With the latest Aion patch, patch 1.5.1, are adding Medal rewards to Legions that successfully defend a fortress throughout a siege. The Legion’s Brigade General will distribute these to the Legion’s members, including Clerics. Not only will this allow Legions to more independently distribute rewards according to what contributions they feel were made, but we also hope this change will motivate Legions to take greater care in defending their fortresses.

Rift "raids" scheduled!

by Mithoron, 20 days ago

Based upon the last couple polls to determine times when everybody will be online, I've scheduled the month of November with "Rift raids" on those specific times. This does not mean we're locked into those times, but to allow people to schedule times to be online for group PVP more readily. I always encourage people who are on to get together and do some PVP'ing anytime...

Raid sign-ups are similar to how we did things in WoW...sign up as if you were signing up for a raid (I'll be adding a link for "Upcoming Events" on the navigation bar later today)...

Veteran Rewards...

by Mithoron, 22 days ago

NCSoft wrote:
A couple of weeks ago we mentioned that Veteran Rewards, fine loot destined to fill the treasure chests of our most steadfast Aion players, are on the horizon. The concept is simple: The longer you play our game, the cooler things you get! Aion's Veteran Rewards will first be available on November 4, and at that point, those of you who have played the game for a month or more will be able to redeem your treats.

The first reward package will contain an Expand Cube Ticket to expand your inventory space, a Pop Legend dance emote to get funky with, four Lodas Amulets to boost your experience gain, and four Revival Stones to bring life and light when things look grim.

Visit our Veteran Rewards page to find out more!

Weekly Web Roundup...

by Mithoron, 24 days ago

NCSoft wrote:
In this Weekly Web Roundup, we take a look at two posts from USA Today's Game Hunters - the first is a review of Aion and the second is an article that gives reveals a variety of gameplay tips straight from the producers of the game. In addition to that, we're featuring two interviews that showcase some of the personalities within the Aion team, Producer Brian Knox and North America Community Manager, Andrew Beegle.

We begin the roundup this week with a favorable review that was published in USA Today by Robert Ahrens. In the review, Robert mentions: “For the first time in my MMO experience, I felt as if my character was meant for something other than ‘leveling up’ and getting better gear. There is a vast storyline being played out with your character as you move through the game. The campaign quest lines bring this about with rich cinematics and narratives through non-playable characters (NPCs).” You can read the entire review online at the USA Today website.

How would you like some “Tips and Tricks” from the North American producers of Aion? USA Today published an article with quotes from Aion Producer Brian Knox, Associate Producer Lani Blazier, and Associate Producer Chris Hager. In the article, you’ll find beginner’s quest tips, intermediate grinding tips, and advanced Legion tips that will benefit even the most seasoned of adventurers.

Last week, MMORPG.com sat down with Aion Producer Brian Knox to talk about some of the hurdles that the Aion team faced in the first month. During the interview, Brian went into great detail about tools to remove spammers. Make sure to check out the full interview with Brian at MMORPG.com.

It didn’t take long for the new NA Community Manager to receive interview requests. Earlier today, Massively published NA Community Manager Andrew “Tamat” Beegle’s first interview. Andrew answered questions on subjects ranging from future community plans to the upcoming quest experience boost. Check out Andrew’s full interview over at Massively.

That’s the roundup for this week. Be sure to check back every week for links to the latest news about Aion.
